An Edwardian period (1901 to 1936) sword, probably late WW1 (as no maker’s / retailer’s name to the ricasso / forte) with later “G L Hope” engraved to the forte; probably for Captain Geoff L Hope who commanded the survey and casualty ferry vessel HMS Hecla during the 1982 Falklands War.
The 31 1/4 etched blade is good and firm in the hilt but the etching is rubbed / feint. The brass hilt is good; the folding guard section works well. The white fishskin grip is worn with patches of white loss, but is still good; the twisted grip wire bindings are good. Later sword knot is good. The leather and brass scabbard is a bit aged and scuffed but still good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
An interesting RN officer’s sword, possibly a family sword, just £450. Please quote item reference ZV80. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box?
