The 25th Lanark Rifle Volunteer Corps were formed on 14th December 1859 at Messrs Barclay Curie & Co (Clyde Ship Builders). They were redesignated as the 6th Corps in 1880 and became 2nd Volunteer Battalion Highland Light Infantry in 1887.
This sword has no maler’s or retailers details on the blade but dates to circa 1859-1880, maybe from when they were formed.
The 32 1/8 inch blade is in aged but good condition, and firm in the hilt. The plated steel hilt / guard has some wear but is still good. The fishskin grip is aged / worn and faded, but good (some tiny shrinkage gaps under the backpiece). The twisted grip wire bindings are mostly good but a lesser strand is astray on one turn. The original / old sword knot is a bit frayed / feint / worn but sound. The plated steel scabbard has age and wear but is still good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
