The Wilkinson sales ledger suggests the blade was originally fitted to a RMC hilted sword sold to an A.G.M. Maguire on the 30th August 1936, but then was seemingly rehilted to its present Rifle Regiment Officer’s form. Serial number 65846 to the blade’s spine.
The 32 1/8 inch etched blade bearing Edward 8th’s India service “EIR” royal cypher both sides is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt / guard is good but for a deep graze / dent on one bar. The fishskin grip is good but worn and faded; the twisted grip bindings appear to use to be all there but with some now covering others. The black leather sword knot is good but aged. The leather field service scabbard has scuffs / wear / age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
