VGC = Very Good Condition. Pack-Ohliger of Solingen started making swords in 1909, just 5 years before World War One, so this sword is very much of the WW1 era as such quality post war was rare. Beautifully etched, including the officer’s initials “GAP”.
The 30 3/8 inch very well etched blade is in pretty much as new condition and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt / guard is good but has a generall all over speckling of inert rust. The fishskin grip is good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings except that a few strands are wayward. The steel scabbard has some age and wear but is very good for its age and probable service life. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A stunning Prussian m1852/79 Cavalry Officer’s Pipe-Back Sword in exceptionally good condition and for only £650. Please quote item reference ZV56. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2287 102 x 15 x 17 (2.110).
