Rare niello silver circa 1800 Sri Lankan / Sinhalese Kastane Sword with Scabbard, and it makes other plain silver versions look lesser! The photos do the talking on this item but, it is magnificent. The blade has signs it was once decorated perhaps, probably wootz steel. The soft brass blade collar has suffered through the years, but a fine metal working expert should easily be able to cure that.
The 18 7/8 inch blade has age (pitting, wear, etc.) but is sound at the very least plus firm in the hilt. The spectacular mythical dragon-like Makara hilt is in very good condition, gemstones for eyes present. The matching scabbard has signs of light repair but is nonetheless good. The sword sheahes and draws fairly well; caution taken not to force it.
