British War Department (WD) marks show this is a Military Police or Customs Officer’s Sword. Spring catch scabbard release system present and working, so well above average. Period sharpened. Scarce leather (not fishskin) grip.
The 21 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The brass stirrup hilt is in good condition; the scabbard release button present / good. The spiralled black leather grip is worn / aged but good; no grip wire (probably never was). The leather and brass fittings scabbard has knocks and scuffs but is good; same the leather sword frog. The sword sheathes and draws well.
