Many sellers offer post-Waterloo “Briquets” sidearms as Waterloo (18th Jine 1815) battle trophies when they are not; sometimes they are not even French! This is a guaranteed authentic Imperial French Infantry An XI short sword dated September (“9bre”) 1813 which may well be a Battkle of Waterloo allied war trophy as it has been in the UK for time immemorial. Dated to the blades spine with correct three poinçons (inspection stamps) to the blade’s forte (see: poinçons).
The 23 3/8 inch plain blade ahs age but is good and firm in the hilt. The brass one piece (actually two halves forged together) hilt / guard / ribbed grip is in aged lightly worn but good condition. Scabbard absent.
