Scarce because King Edward 8th was only the British monach for a few months and during a period of peace when sword production was low anyway. Etched at the ricasso / forte to retailer Edward Smith, 25 Cork St., London.
The 32 1/4 inch blade is on good condition, some wear / age / very light pitting, plus firm in the hilt. The steel hilt with EVIII royal cypher to the guard’s cartouch is in very good condition, some small wear / inert rust patches to the backpiece and inside of the guard. The fishskin grip is a little aged but good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The plated steel scabbard has some age discoloration and a few small dings / scuffs but is nonetheless good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Scarce EVIII 1897 pattern British infantry officer’s sword in above average condition, just £600. Please quote item reference ZV19. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2219 108 x 13 x 13 (1.48).
