We are 95% sure that this sword, etched in the unmistakable Wilkinson Sword style (see etching and particularly the Firmin logo), was indeed made by Wilkinsons for Firmin House. Purchased by us from the MOD. We know Firmin House bought swords from Wilkinsons. The hilt / guard has likely been professionally / very well re-gilted at some point, probably by Wilkinsons or Firmin..
The 30 7/8 inch well etched blade is in very good condition, though has some age plus small crazing patches around the point. Blade is firm in the hilt. The gilt brass hilt / guard is in superb bright condtion; folding guard section works. The faux fishskin grip is also very very good (looks new), including the still bright twisted grip wire bindings. Sword knot, very good. Leather and gilt brass scabbard also good. The sword sheathes and draws well but the folding guard section does not locate onto the scabbard’s retaining pin.
Stunning ERII RN officer’s sword; well worth £550. Please quote item reference ZV07. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2218 105 x 13 x 13 (1.38).
