Good condition but for the old nicks to the cutting edge and the loss of the grip wire bindings. Klingemthal made swords are pre-1836 (when production shifted to another factory / region), so are scarce. Some of the nicks appear to be period, so the sword appears to have seen very active service; List of French Battles. No regimental or scabbard markings visible; the scabbard may well be a period replacement. m1816’s like this have three bar guards (m1822’s have 2 bar guards). Whereas the m1816 was superseded by the m1822, production of the former did not stop.
The almighty 37 7/8 inch blade is in very good condition, apart from the nicks, and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / guard is good but aged. The original leather grip is quite good (worn and aged) but has lost its twisted grip wire bindings. The period chemically dark browned heavy steel scabbard is in good condition; some wear / fading / age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
