Manufacture d’alsace and dated February 1877 to the blade’s spine, plus with matching rack numbers (8875) to the hilt and scabbard suspension ring, this French modelle 1845/1855 Infantry Officer’s Sword was probably issued to a NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) / Sergeant. Correct single suspension ring. Complete with correct period / original leather sword knot, this sabre d’adjudant d’infanterie is a collector’s dream.
The 30 1/8 inch plain blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The gilt brass hilt / guard is also very good. The fine walnut grip and twisted grip wire bindings are equally very good. The period / original sword knot is aged but good (detached; simply needs to be reattached). The field service steel scabbard has some patina freckles to wards the chape but is still very good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
