“Gothic” brass hilt, folding guard section, pipe back blade, quill point, brass scabbard, all equal a British senior infantry officer’s 1822 pattern sword. The blade’s “tablet” etching still visible but the maker’s / retailer’s name is too feint for us to determine. This sword dates from 1837 (year of Queen Victoria’s coronation) to 1845 (year when the 1822p was superseded).
The 32 inch blade is in aged / worn condition but still good, plus firm in the hilt. The brass hilt is in equally aged / worn but quite good condition; the folding guard section still working. The fishskin grip has patches of loss, mostly one side; the associated twisted grip wire bindings are mostly good but with some wayward lesser strand turns on one side. The brass scabbard with age, wear, scuffs and some small dings is nonetheless quite good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
