The urn shaped pommel indicates this Georgian (early 1800’s) heavy cavalry officer’s dress sword was for a British Life Guard. The single central fullered blade may indicate he was a Scotsman.
The 32 inch plain blade has age / wear and some patina, but remains in good condition and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / boat shell guard has some gilt remaining and is in good condition. The twisted silver wire grip is as seen; the wire, possibly complete, is loose / detached. The steel scabbard has a probable break which has been period repaired with a copper band and is aged / worn generally with patina / freckled pitting, but remains quite good. The sword sheathes and draws fairly well.
A worthy potential home refurbishment project for just £375. Please quote item reference number ZU03. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box?
