The M1899 was used by many Japanese Army Non Commissioned Officers and some police officers during World War Two, as was a longer version (used by mounted forces). This one has different serial numbers to the sword and scabbard, so is most likely a mass surrender weapon. But, the nicks to the blade and general wear suggest the sword had a bloody active roll.
The 30 9/16 inch blade has a couple of period nicks and is firm in the grip; a tiny little bit of movement to the hilt. Hilt / guard in generally good condition; the chequered wooden grip with wear etc. but good. The sabre sheathes and draws well, and the scabbard locking mechanism works.
A good honest WW2 Japanese NCO’s sword at a very reasonable price; (was) £550, now £467.5 . Please quote item reference Z56. Further / full sized images upon request. Box 1581-Golf (2.352)
