With the owner’s / officer’s initials “D. F.” etched to the blade, serial number 59592 to the spine for 1922, this sword was sold to D. Foster of the 11th Hussars; confirmed to us by reference to the Wilkinson Sales Ledger (see very last photo below). We have no idea why there is a period white ribbon well / army regulation tied to the hilt; we have left it on for posterity.

The 35 inch blade is well etched and in good condition but with wear and some staining / patina patches. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt / bowl guard in good condition; some metal finishing polish such as Simichrome may improve well. The black fishskin grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings are in very good condition. The sword knot and period white ribbon are in good condition. The leather field service scabbard in in good order; the sword sheathes and draws well.
Come on researchers, what more can you find out about D. Foster of the 11th Hussars? Maybe his career / life will treble the value of this sword! At the moment, it is just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Z54. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1584-121x19x16 (2.348)
