Serial number 56850 confirms this sword was made in 1919. Please note, the apparent smear down one side of the blade is reflected light; there is no smear. Wilkinson Sword made Gieves Swords, hence why you have the Wilkinson Trademark etched one side of the forte / ricasso, Gieves the other. This means the Wilkinson sales ledger almost certainly will show Gieves as the buyer, not the actual naval officer.

The 31 3/4 inch blade is very well etched and in very good condition, just a couple of small patina patches (and the odd spot of protective grease, easily removed). Blade firm in the hilt; the hilt / guard good and the folding section locates onto the retaining scabbard pin. The grip a little grubby but very good; same too the associated twisted grip wire bindings. The leather and gilt brass scabbard has some age / wear but is good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A well above antique Wilkinson Royal Navy sword for just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote reference number Z34. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1554-golf (1.913).
