The date inscription to the spine is rubbed (it looks to be 1856), but the model number 1854 still clear. This is an early M1854 with two suspension rings, not one, to the scabbard.
The impressive long 38 1/4 inch blade is in good condition, some wear, very little rust / patina, and firm in the hilt. The heavy brass hilt / guard is good but with some age, tarnish and slight distortion to the forward guard edging. The original leather grip with wear is good but has lost its twisted grip wire. The scabbard is good, a little over-cleaned perhaps, some light rust spots, etc. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Really lovely, impressive, deadly sword at a price that will not kill you! (was) £800, now £640 . Please quote item reference Z32. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1555-123x15x15 (2.597).
