The British RAJ was the British Crown’s rule over the Indian subcontinent, replacing the East India Company. This sabre was bought by / for either a native officer serving in a British Indian cavalry regiment (British and higher ranking / well to do native officers wearing British made / pattern swords) or mounted police officer. It is unmarked, so likely a private purchase. The quality Indian made blade is sharp and has several old nicks to the cutting edge, so appears to have been put to use.

The 31 1/8 inch blade is in good condition (save for the nicks) and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt / guard is good, the outer bar bent inwards however. The hardwood grip and twisted grip wire bindings are good but with some age and wear. The scabbard has shrinkage and age, but is sound. The sabre sheathes and draws well.
Impressive saber, scarce as well, just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Z27. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1546-golf (1.756).
