This sword was bought by a very senior British infantry officer for field service use (mamelukes were generally bought as dress swords). Etched at the ricasso / forte to retailer Watson & Co Bombay.

The 32 1/4 inch blade is worn (etching feint) in places but still good and firm in the hilt, crossed baton and sword for general officer etched to blade. The hilt / guard with crossed baton and sword to the cartouche is good but with some distortion as should be expected with these comparatively frail brass “gothic” hilts. The fishskin grip and associated grip wire bindings are a little aged / worn but good. The brass (for a senior officer) scabbard is good but has dents and scratches. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Lovely example of a scarce infantry general’s field service sword. Just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Z22. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1541-golf (2.05).
