This is the World War One British Army Officer’s Sword of then Lieutenant J. W. Wright of the Gloucestershire Regiment; he went on to the rank of Major and was awarded the Military Cross. The blade etched “J. W. Wright” and also to the ricasso “K (or R) T Wright, 31 Westgate, Gloucester”, we believe a family connected business, possibly a saddlery. Serial number 03475 to the spine.

The 32 3/4 inch blade has some very old grease stain / age to it but is in good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard with age and some light rust patches / rust dusting to the inside. The original sword knot now detached, just some of the strap remaining. The fishskin grip generally good, as are the associated twisted grip wire bindings. The leather field service scabbard with age and wear is sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Nice example. Plenty of research potential. Just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Z08. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1532-117x15x14 (1.808).
