Etched “Fenton Brothers Ltd Sheffield Sword Cutlers to the War Office” to the forte / ricasso. This is a World War One era Scottish Infantry Officer’s Cross Hilted Broadsword and leather firled service scabbard.
The 32 1/4 inch etched blade has some small rust patches (now treated to be inert) and patina spots but is overall good and firm in the cross hilt. The hilt with some wear patches is otherwise good. The fishskin grip is good, some wear but not too much. The twisted grip wire bindings are good. The leather field service scabbard a little aged / worn and is there was a metal ball chape cover once, it has gone, but is overall good, above average. The leather frog strap with creases / age / wear is sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Nice sword, quite scarce, in above average condition. Yours for was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Z07. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1533-117x15x14 (1.934).
