Clearly a Waterloo or other Napoleonic war trophy / bring back as has clearly been neglected in the UK for many years. This variation of the An XI is associated with French lancer officer’s; the French lancers were the most feared / effective in the world, mostly Polish! This makes our sword both scarce and more valuable / collectible then regular An XI officer swords.
The 33 inch clipped point back narrow fuller blade has wear and some pitting but is very sound with some etching still relatively clear and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt has minor distortion and a few scrapes but is otherwise good. The original leather grip is good; the twisted grip wire bindings a little less so with one turn some strands broken and sticking out.
Once a fine sword but still very evocative. Just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Y85. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1501-117x15x14 (2.402).
