No “Y” for yeomanry (reserve) cavalry anywhere we can see, so almost certainly was a weapon with a front line regiment; unfortunately the markings are so aged, we can not see what they are / were. Maker Mole of Birmingham, so one of the best.

The 35 5/8 inch blade is in very good condition, sharpened, some nicks, some scuffing wear, firm in the hilt. The hilt good but pitted throughout. The composite grip has erosion / decomposition type damage along the edges but is sound. The heavy steel scabbard has lost much of its original chemical browning and the two throat screws. Despite this, the sword sheathes and draws well.
An iconic sword / saber / sabre (hint, the US basically copied it) by an iconic maker, just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Y82. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1485-117x15x14 (2.681).
