The Wilkinson Sword sales ledger confirms sword serial number 61607 as a Guards pattern sword sold on 11th March 1937 to Guy A. Dubose Taylor, Scots Guards. Lieutenant Colonel Guy A. D. Taylor, MC took command of 2nd Battalion Scots Guards in Italy from 09 September 1943 to 25 October 1943 and 29 October 1943 to 5 November 1943 (he was very sick for 4 days in between), and then the 1st Battalion Scots Guards. He was killed on 27th June 1944. The sword is in a dress scabbard so clearly stayed in Scotland while he was abroad.
The 32 3/8 inch blade is supremely well etched over 3/4 the length of the blade with full battle honours for the Scots Guards, their regimental badge, the cypher of King George V, and the Wilkinson logo, all in very good condition. Blade form in the hilt. The hilt / guard with tiny speckles would almost certainly restore fully with TLC and a good metal finishing polish (caveat: we have not inspected under the sword knot). The grip and twisted grip wire bindings in very good condition. Original sword knot in very good condition for its age. Plated steel scabbard with some speckles / age is nonetheless very good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
