Made by Hawkes & Co, a quality sword maker. Etched to R J Pockney; we believe this to be one Robert J Pockney, who was married to Jacqueline Poole. 2nd Lieutenant R J Pockney was with the territorial North Midland Brigade of the Royal Artillery when he was promoted to acting / temporary Lieutenant on the 22nd August 1916, and was serving near the front line in Bienvillers in January 1917.
The very well etched 35 inch blade is in good condition but with some small rust / patina patches; blade firm in the hilt. The hilt in overall good condition, a little bending (not much) to the knuckle bow. The fishskin grip and associated grip wire bindings are in good condition. The field service leather scabbard is good but with scrapes, wear, etc. The sword sheathes and draws well.
