Serial number 54413 confirms this Wilkinson Sword was made during World War One. The “W O” marking to the blade’s spine confirms this sword was sold to the British War Office, so this is a NCO’s sword, much scarcer than a commissioned officer’s sword.
The 34 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard with a browning, thought to be the remains of chemical browning (for camouflage) is in good shape. The fishskin grip and grip wire bindings in good condition. The leather field service scabbard has some issues; the leather surface and side stitching in places is coming away (could be carefully glued), otherwise is good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Nice scarce example. Nicer low price, was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Y45. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1.436-117x14x14 (1.769).
