Much more scarce than a Royal Naval officer’s sword, this WW1 era RNR officer’s sword was likely made circa 1917 due to no retailer’s / maker’s name to the ricasso.
The 31 1/4 inch blade is in good condition but with some patina patches. Blade firm in the hilt, which is in good condition; with”RNR” to the cartouche. The fishskin grip and grip wire bindings are very good. The original sword knot has some age but is good. The leather and brass fitting scabbard also good with some age. The folding section of the guard works well and locates properly onto the retaining pin on the top scabbard locket. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Very nice example at a very fair price, was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Y37. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1428-117x14x14 (1.854).
