British Indian Army markings, serial number 55336 for 1918, this sword is very unlikely to have left Europe; it was almost certainly issued to an officer commanding Indian troops in the European Trenches / Killing Fields.

The 32 1/8 inch blade with GRI cypher is in very good condition, some small patina spots, and firm in the hilt. The steel (not plated) hilt in good condition but with some light pitting spots. The fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings are good but with wear. The steel scabbard with some age but very good. The sword sheathes and draws well but maybe the scabbard throat screws could do with a little tightening.
GRI much scarcer than GR. This example in well above average condition. Well priced at was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference X92. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1372-118x15x14 (1.984).
