The Indian made superb quality wootz blade and marine bone grip tell us this is a Bombay Marine officer’s dirk. The twin propeller cross guard quillons tells us early 19C, 1800 onwards. Still sharp, you would not want to cross swords with this very long dirk; perfect length for hand to hand combat on a rigged ship.

The 24 7/8 inch blade is in very good condition but no longer firm in the hilt / grip. The hilt and grip with movement but sound. The part fluted (for grip) marine ivory (probably walrus tusk) grip, a break in British tradition to have elephant ivory, has some chips / losses and age cracks. The pommel rotates. The knuckle bow chain is gone.
Aged and rare with an awesome deadly blade. Just (was) £650, now £455 . Please quote item reference X36. Further / full sized images available upon request. Triangle 1278-105x16x16 (1.085).
