The black scabbard and sword knot tell us this was the property of a rifle officer of the British Infantry. Serial number 98816 for 1970; the original officer owner could possibly be determined by paying was £? (too late, now sold) to Royal Armouries to check the Wilkinson sales ledger. In very good condition, with some TLC and good metal polish (Simichrome recommended), we have no doubt this would be in parade condition.
The 32 inch blade is well etched and in very god condition, some small plating loss / patina to the back edge and point end. Blade firm in hilt / grip. The hilt / guard in very good condition. The black fishskin grip has wear / fading but is very good. The sword knot with age / wear but sound. The leather scabbard with wear and some scrapes but good. The sword sheathes and draws very well.
ERII Wilkinson Swords are getting very hard to source, especially those in good condition. So was £? (too late, now sold) is an investment bargain. Please quote item reference X29. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1284-101x18x16 (1.940).
