No maker’s / retailer’s name to the ricasso, but the Proved R slug is that for Charles Reeves, maker, who was owned by Wilkinson Sword at that time. And it shows; the quality gray / grey etched blade speaks volumes. Most likely made during WW2 because there is no retailer’s name.
The 32 1/4 inch blade is mostly good around the etching areas but has patina and light pitting towards the point and a little around the back edge. Blade firm in hilt. The hilt generally good, would brighten up well with a good metal polishing / finishing cream except where the sword knot has been (a small light rust patch). Fishskin grip a little faded but good; twisted grip wire bindings present and correct. Field leather scabbard, frog and suspension belts good but with some age / scrapes. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A good example. Well priced at was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference X09. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1246-101x18x16 (2.090).
