The British Royal Indian Marine had very few ships and thereby officers at the outbreak of World War 1, so these swords are so much rarer than standard Royal Navy swords, as the RN had hundreds of ships and many, many more officers. This one is etched to Caffin & Son Chatham (an outfitters).

The 31 inch blade is in very good condition except for some scuffing and the proof slug is missing. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt is in good condition. The fishskin grip is good, the twisted grip wire bindings with missing strands and others are loose. The original sword knot aged but sound. The leather and brass fittings scabbard is good but the small retaining pin on the top locket has gone. The sword sheathes and draws well but does need a little push at one point. The folding guard section works well. The all weather bag is aged but sound.
If only swords could talk of their past. Yours for was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference R23. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0492-1m (2.074).
