Scarce! Most King George 5th Royal Naval officer’s sword are etched with the Royal Coat of Arms; this one is etched “GRV” to the blade for George Rex V (King George 5th). No maker’s / retailer’s details etched to the blade, so likely circa 1917/1918 when WW1 was at its most deadly. Serial number 04265 to the spine.
The 31 1/6 inch well etched blade is in good condition but for some small patina patches and wear, plus firm in the hilt. The gilt brass hilt / guard is good, the folding section works well and locates onto the scabbard pin. The white fishskin grip is very good, a small spot of black, probably paint. The twisted grip wire bindings are good save for a lesser wayward strand. The sword knot is aged and worn but sound / good. The leather and brass fittings scabbard is aged / worn but good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
