VGC = Very Good Condition; original grip and twisted grip wire. A guaranteed authentic An XIII French Heavy Cavalry (Cuirassier) Trooper’s Sword, Imperial Klingenthal maker’s date inscription November 1812 to the spine with correct poinçon inspection stamps to the forte, so it may well have seen action in the French Invasion of Russia and / or the Peninsular War. Rare example with matching serial numbers (426) to the hilt and scabbard. Almost certainly a British war trophy from Waterloo as the point has been spear pointed, it has the original hilt (not the 1816 version), and the pre-Waterloo number of grip turns (11) not 20+ of post Waterloo, indicating it did not stay in French service.
Again, this sword is guaranteed authentic, not one of the many Indian made replicas (with pigskin grips and only two poinçons).
The twin fullered 37 1/4 inch steel blade is in very good condition, some stains / light scuffs (easily removed), and form in the hilt. The magnificent iconic heavy brass 3 bar guard is in very good condition, some minor scuffs / age / wear. The original leather grip has some wear / age but is still very good, plus has it original twisted grip wire bindings. The heavy steel scabbard has age and wear but is still very good for its 200+ year age. The sword sheathes and draws very well.
