Scabbard absent (these can be sourced but not through us, sorry; reproduction / replacement scabbards likely to fit but not guaranteed). Etched to quality maker “Hawkes & Co Piccadilly London” to the forte / ricasso. A fine VR Kings Own Scottish Borderers Officer’s Basket Hilted Broadsword; serial number 4110, circa 1880.
The very well etched 32 1/2 inch blade is a little aged / worn but still very good and firm in the hilt. The plated steel basket hilt / guard is in very good condition, some plating loss to the pommel. The buff leather crimson red hilt insert has some age but is very good save for the royal blue edging has mostly gone. The scarlet tassel is good. The black fishskin grip is worn but but good, the twisted grip wire binding is good but for a lesser strand being slightly astray for a couple of turns. Scabbard absent.
