Rare variation with VR (instead of crossed sword and baton) to the cross guard’s cartouche; possibly for a general’s diplomatic service. Note the crossed sword and baton etched to both sides of the blade, plus the general’s sword knot (this is not a diplomatic official’s mameluke). Etched at the forte / ricasso to quality military outfitters / tailors “Watts 2 St James Street London”.

Ivory Declaration Submission Reference G4197G1S.
The 30 1/4 inch well etched blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt very good. The ivory “scales” (2 piece) grip is slightly age yellowed but very good; a slight hairline crack to the pommel. The general’s rank sword knot is aged and a little worn but good for its age. The senior officer’s brass scabbard ahs some age patina and a few small dings around the chape but is still very good. The saber sheathes and draws well.
