In very good condition, a rare British 1821P Heavy Cavalry Trooper’s Sword

Unmarked; no maker’s details, war office stamps or regimental markings. British made, clearly, but with a fishskin, not leather grip as is more normal. Maybe a sword intended for the Union Cavalry (manufacturers did not identify weapon origin for fear of upsetting the Union) that never made it (the Union blockaded Confederate ports). Or maybe a British officer’s private purchase campaign sword. Or maybe a sword bought by a regiment for an NCO.
NB: most 1821P heavy cavalry trooper swords are in appalling condition due to their long harsh service lives; this one is a gem in the very good condition it is in.
The 34 1/2 inch plain blade is a little aged but in good condition and firm in the hilt. The semi-bowl hilt / guard has age (some light rust / patina) and wear (scuffs, etc) but remains good. The fishskin grip is good but has some very small moth holes and dry shrinkage; the associated twisted grip wire bindings are good. The steel scabbard with distinctive lyre drag has age and scuffs etc but is still good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
You don’t find many Trooper’s 1821Ps, let alone in such good condition; just £1150 for this rare example. Please quote item reference AJ49. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 3081 111 x 13 x 13 (2.13).
