VGC = Very Good Condition. EVIII = British Monarch King Edward 8th (reigned for just 326 days in 1936 before choosing to step down so he could marry the American divorcée Wallis Simpson). Due to his short reign and 1936 being peacetime, very few swords were made with his royal cypher; this is one of them.

The well etched 32 3/8 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The plated steel hilt with EVIII cypher to the guard’s cartouche is generally very good but with age, wear / scuffs and crazing (tiny bubbles) to the edge area and tiny patches of plating loss / inert rust to the outer edge itself. The small nodule fishskin grip is in good condition (some age and wear); the associated twisted grip wire bindings are good but some lesser strands are slightly astray. The leather field service scabbard is good but has age and wear; the sword sheathes and draws well.
