The blade stamped ’06, so it was originally fitted into a rare 1906p experminental cavalry trooper’s sword.
Marked “2DG” on the inside of the guard for the Second Dragoon Guards (Queen’s Bays), plus two weapon (rack) numbers, the latest being “313”. There is also the feint remnants of the original regimental markings. On the scabbard, there is “2DG” plus another two rack numbers, the latest being “318”, so the sword stayed in the 2nd Dragoon Guards but a later marriage of swoed to scabbard took place. Finally, there is a similar feint original regimental marking “10335”. The markings to the blade indicate the sword went into service in May 1915.

The 34 3/4 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel bowl guard has dents, etc. commensurate with a war time active service life. The composite diagonally chequered grip is in good condition; the trooper having feintly added his own design to the top. The steel scabbard is very good; some minor scratches and dings, plus a small black patina pitting patch around the drag. The sword sheathes and draws well.
