Serial number 45778 on the blade’s spine for 1914. The blade has been thinly replated long after that war and the plating has given way in many places; a modern DIYer should have no problem in removing it all. It appears to say “Army Service Corps“, which makes sense as the sword has a 3 bar guard, not the WW1 era infantry / artillery etc. 1897P half basket guard.
The 32 1/4 inch replated blade has several, sometimes large patches of plating loss, but is sound and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard, partly hidden by the sword knot (such areas unseen), has a steady milky tarnish (can be quite easily improved / cleaned off). Black fishskin grip in good condition, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. Leather sword knot in aged / worn but good condition. Leather field service scabbard in good condition but with paint spots / wear / age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
