Spectacular Blue and Gilt etched Prussian made blade (as they often were), marked to “H Hauschill” on the spine (the hilt / guard was added to the blade by an English sword cutler). The royal cypher for King George 3rd with pre-1802 British Royal Coat of Arms etched to the blade proper. Several very small period nicks (no burr, patina within the nicks) show the sword was probably used by its officer owner in the Napoleonic Peninsula War.
The well etched 32 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt with stirrup guard is in good condition, some very light pitting. The ribbed leather grip is aged and a little worn but good, well above average; there is a single strand of twisted grip wire binding. The original steel scabbard has some age (wear, light pitting, minor dents) but remains good. The sabre sheathes and draws well.
