1796 Pattern Saber / Sabre / Sword. Aged / worn, near relic but sound. “WOOLLEY & Co” maker’s mark to the spine of the blade, crown over 1 British view / inspection mark to blade. Any regimental markings are lost to the exterior (inert) rust pitting, but a candidate for having seen action in a famous battle.
The 32 1/4 inch blade has a lot of pitting and silver over-cleaning colour; firm in the hilt. The hilt / stirrup guard is pitted but sound. The ribbed grip haas lost around 50% of its leather surface and is worn.. The steel scabbard has a few small rust holes and is generally aged / worn. The sword sheathes and draws loosely.
