With clear battle damage to the earlier 17th Century blade, this is a circa 1730 Scottish basket hilt broadsword. The blade is traditionally Scottish forged, no clear markings. Purchased by us in Edinburgh.
The 30 1/2 inch blade is very aged and worn with clear battle damage mid way, firm in the hilt. The steel basket hilt has inert / former rust pitting and some damage but its generally good. The original wooden spiral grip has lost its leather surface but the twisted grip bindings are still present and the grip as a whole is generally good.
