VGC = Very Good Condition. Dated on the blade’s spine to French sword maker Klingenthal July 1814 with correct (three) poinçons (inspection stamps) for that date of Krantz, Lobstein and Bick. This French An XI model light cavalry trooper’s sabre most likely saw action at Waterloo as it appears to be a British serviceman’s / soldier’s bring back battle / war trophy.
Guaranteed authentic; most on sale elsewhere are reproductions (look out for only 2 blade poinçons, Oct 1811 date, laser cut Klingenthal inscription, etc.). Again, ours / this one here is 100% authentic, guaranteed.
The 34 1/2 inch plain blade has a little age and sharpening marks, but is otherwise in VGC for its 200+ year age, plus is firm in the hilt. The heavy brass guard has some minor age / small scrapes but is very good, The leather bound ribbed grip is aged a small amount / a little worn but good; the original brass “olives” still present. The period chemically browned heavy steel scabbard is aged and has a couple of small dings towards the chape but remains very good considering. The sabre sheathes and draws well.
