Guaranteed authentic. Dated October 1870. Marked to Châtellerault. The inscription to the spine of the blade is feint but visible.
The impressive slightly curved 36 inch blade has some age but remains good and is firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / guard is a little worn / grubby etc. but good. The leather bound spiral ribbed grip is a tad aged but good, though the twisted grip wire bindings are all but gone. The period chemically browned steel scabbard has a few minor dings towards the drag / chape, but is still good; the sword sheathes and draes well.
