Scarce Bandsman’s Sword / sidearm of the 3rd Royal Lancashire Militia (the Duke of Lancaster’s Own), early to mid 19th century, made by HAWKES & CO London. Marked on the inside edge of the grip “17.3d RLM”, in its scabbard stamped “3d. RLM 27”. Circa 1820.
The plain (except for etched Hawkes & co maker’s block to the forte) 28 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt. The one piece brass hilt / guard / grip is aged with some wear but remains very good. The brass scabbard has a few dings and a slight kink but remains good nonetheless. The sword sheathes and draws well.
