Complete with steel scabbard, this is a guaranteed authentic British 1796 pattern light cavalry sabre / saber made by Dawes of Birmingham England. No regimental markings, but a crown over 9? view / inspection mark confirms this sword was bought by the British War Department, while the nicks to the blade suggest an active service history.
The curved 32 1/3 inch blade is in aged / worn condition, but good save for the nicks to the cutting edge, plus firm in the hilt. The aged steel stirrup hilt / guard has a steady pleasing bronze patina and is good. The leather over ribbed wooden grip is worn but sound / good for 200 years+. The steel scabbard has age / wear but is very good for its age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
