No maker’s or retailer’s details to the blade, so likely made for a small retailer who did not have their own etching plate at the makers, or that it is late WW1 when such detail was less important than production. The officer’s initials “R. S. A.” engraved to the top scabbard’s locket.
he well etched 17 3/4 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt is good, one quillon angled. The white fishskin grip is good but a little worn and grubby; the twisted grip wire bindings have some waywardness in places. The dirk / sword knot has lost its finale and is worn and tatty in places. The leather and brass fittings scabbard is good, some wear / age / scuffing; the dirk sheathes and draws well plus the locking pin mechanism holds the scabbard in place.
A potentially researchable Edwardian RN dirk in good order, just £550. Please quote item reference AI80. Further / full sized photos available upon request. Box 2164 61 x 13 x 13 (1.005).
