Guaranteed authentic; be aware of the many reproductions that are falsely / fraudulently sold as genuine WW2 Japanese Army NCO shin gunto katanas. How can you tell is a NCO gunto is authentic or not? Authentic shin guntos, like this one, the bohi blade groove starts close to the habaki brass blade collar, the metal sarute loop sword knot ring at the pommel does not extend past the pommel, etc.
We presume this gunto and scabbard / saya have matching serial numbers; the saya’s number is mostly gone due to surface rust but ends “271”, the serial number on the blade is 33271″.
The 27 3/8 inch blade has a steady inert light rust pitting throughout, but is otherwise good and firm in the tsuka / hilt. The tsuka and parts thereof are worn / aged / faded are good, the locking pin mechanism that holds the saya in place when sheathed works. The steel saya / scabbard is aged / worn and has several dings / dents, especially around the drag. The sword sheathes and draws well.
