The guard / hilt and scabbard parts have been regilt, the grip wire replaced. But this French m1821 infantry officer’s sword is authentic with good amounts of the original blue and gilt etch to the blade remaining.
The 29 3/8 inch part etched blade is in very good condition, some fading to the blue and gilt etching, plus firm in the hilt. The gilt brass guard / hilt is very good. The ribbed leather grip a little aged / worn in placess; the replacement twisted grip wire bindings are generally good. The leather and gilt brass fittings scabbard is very good, though the leather with age / some cracking / scuffing etc. The sword sheathes and draws well.
